The course aims: 

  • To provide students with an opportunity to carry out technological practice in the area of Information and Communication Technology
  • To enable students to formulate a brief to meet a selected need or opportunity
  • To enable student to develop an outcome through technolgical practice to address a given brief
  • To develop students ability to express their creativity when designing and making computer based outcomes to an issue
  • To enable students to develop their ability to communicate their ideas through multimedia applications

 

This Level 1 Computer Technology (ICT) course contributes 24 credits towards the Level 1 National Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA).

Four (4) of these credits are from NZQA Generic Computing Unit Standards.

 

The course is divided into the following topics of work:

  • The technological design process including stakeholder consultation, creating a plan of action, researching key factors, writing a brief, designing the best outcome and evaluating an outcome
  • Multimedia elements in presentations such as animation, video and sound
  • Web site creation using the Macromedia Web Site Design suite of software
  • Create an interactive educational learning tool using visual basic programming and PowerPoint
  • All work will be presented in portfolio format detailing the technological process that has been followed to create the outcome

 Assessments:

Unit One: Web Design

  • 90046 -  Formulate a brief to address a given issue.  6 credits

Generic Computing Unit Standards

  • 2792 -   Produce computer graphics using templates. 2 credits

  • 18734 - Create a web site using a template. 2 credits


Unit Two: Interactive Learning Tool

  • 90050 -
    Present an outcome developed through technological practice that addresses the requirments of a brief.
    6 credits

  • 90045 -
    Develop an outcome through technological practice to address a given brief.
    4 credits

External Element:

  • 90049 -
    Demonstrate understanding  of technological knowledge.
